This year All Souls will take a big step away from being a church-plant and towards a self-governing parish in the Anglican Church in North America by forming a "Vestry"!
What is a Vestry, you say?
A Vestry is a group of lay members of a parish who are tasked, most generally, with oversight over its "temporalities" (that is, the budget and the property).
More specifically, the Vestry can be said to have four essential "duties":
Ensure the values of the parish
Vestry members ensure, along with the Vicar/Rector that the parish is staying "on track" with regard to our stated values. Those values can be found here.
Uphold financial integrity of the parish
The Vestry both assists the Vicar/Rector in the construction of the annual budget of the parish and examines its monthly finances. They guard the financial health of the parish and ensure that its funds are responsibly received and used for its ministry.
Demonstrate leadership in financial stewardship
Members of the Vestry will be models for the rest of the parish regarding the faithful stewarding of their own financial resources for the ministry of the parish. In this way Vestry members lead the parish in generating and maintaining a culture of generosity.
Support the ministry of the Vicar/Rector
The Vestry supports the Vicar/Rector carry out the ministry of the parish according to the parish Values. While vestry members have no direct pastoral responsibilities, their oversight of the temporalities is intended to create the conditions necessary for a healthy parish community as we walk in faith together.
Who can be a member of the Vestry?
Any adult member in good standing (who is also willing to serve if nominated) may be nominated to serve on the Vestry.
A good candidate is someone who
Desires to serve sacrificially in this way
Is deeply committed to following the way of Christ in their day-to-day life
Is able to give 2-3 hours a week to the work of the Vestry
Is able to commit to monthly Vestry Meetings (approx. 2 hours long)
How are Vestry members selected?
They are nominated by a member of All Souls (note: nominees must also be members of All Souls)
The Nominating Committee will present a list of candidates who will stand for election to the Vestry
Adult members of All Souls will vote online for two candidates to serve a three-year term on the Vestry
Newly elected Vestry members will be presented at the Parish Meeting on May 17

As ever, don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Grace, peace,
