Fall 2025 Service Opportunities

Blackwell Elementary School:

Located just a ten minute walk from church, Blackwell is our neighborhood zone school. Partnering here is a wonderful way to serve the particular parish (neighborhood) our church calls home.

1. Serve as a kindergarten reading buddy: Some of our neighbors from the Richmond Co-housing community (9th and porter street) have started a weekly reading program on Tuesday mornings to provide academic support to Kindergarten students from 9:30 to 10:30.

Volunteers will read to students and help develop basic skills (holding pencils, writing names etc).

Volunteers can meet at the school or if time allows meet at the church at 9:10 and walk with our neighbors to serve together. The group hopes to begin 09/23. Contact Fr David (David@allsoulsrva.org) if interested.

2. Serve as a "mentor" through Communities In Schools (CIS): The mission of CIS is to bring the resources of the community into the schools to provide support to students and families. As a church we can be one of those resources!

After completing a virtual training and background check, mentors through CIS are paired with a student during their lunch or recess for weekly mentoring for academic/social support.

Sign up here for an online training and contact Fr. David (David@allsoulsrva.org) if interested.

Elijah House Academy:

Elijah House Academy, a Christ-Centered school on the southside of Richmond with deep connections at All Souls, welcomes volunteers to serve as tutors in their Academic Support Center after school from 3:10-4:30 Monday-Thursday.

Volunteers will undergo a brief training and background check with EHA staff and will be matched with students to serve weekly. Contact Lee Banton (lbanton@elijahhouseacademy.org) and Fr David (David@allsoulsrva.org) to get started!

Imago Dei Neighborhood School:

Another Christ-Centered missional school with deep connections at All Souls, Imago Dei Neighborhood school, is also looking for consistent volunteers to help assist students/staff in their after school program (think crafts, story time, games, etc).

Before beginning, volunteers will undergo training and a background check. Contact Sara Kennedy (skennedy@imagodeirichmond.org) for details.

Stay tuned for more opportunities!

Caritas Shelter Monthly Meals:

Beginning 09/28, All Souls will be providing a monthly meal at the Caritas emergency shelter on the 4th Sunday of each month from 4-6pm. Volunteers will help provide the meal and enjoy fellowships with men and women in the shelter program.

Contact Fr. David if interested (David@allsoulsrva.org)

Caritas Works Program:

"Works" is the last step a Healing Place participant goes through before completing their recovery program. This program equips individuals to enter into the workforce after 9-12 months of full-time work on their recovery.

The Works team is looking for volunteers roughly every 8 weeks to help with practice interviews, resume writing and more.

This is a wonderful intro to the Works program for those interested in workforce development and a meaningful way to encourage participants at this crucial step in their journey.

Contact Dustin Shipp (dshipp@caritasva.org) or Fr David (David@allsoulsrva.org) if interested.

Stay tuned for one-off opportunities with these partners as need/opportunity arises!

Cheers,

Fr. David
